Sen. Hubert H. Humphrey is expected to arrive at the Wheeling-Ohio County airport late tonight after his much heralded debate with Sen. John F. Kennedy in Charleston. Humphrey of Minnesota will be whisked to Steubenville for an overnight stay in preparation for his first visit to the Northern Panhandle Thursday.

The Minnesota senator and Kennedy of Massachusetts are vying for the Democratic ballots in the West Virginia primary next Tuesday for the presidential nomination.

An Ohio County Democratic rally at 7:30 p.m. today at the McLure hotel will be held with Sen. Ernest Greuning of Alaska as the main speaker. W.W. Barron West Virginia attorney general and candidate for governor is also expected to be on hand tonight at the rally.

Humphrey has packed a hectic schedule in his some seven and a half to eight hours of touring Weirton, Wellsburg, Bethany and Wheeling Colleges, Wheeling, Glen Dale, Moundsville, and New Martinsville.

The climax of his visit here will be a major address made from the steps of the Wheeling post office at about 12:30 p.m. Thursday. He will be introduced by Mayor John. J. Gast.

Another political figure who will be in town at the same time is Robert Kennedy, brother of John, who will be the guest speaker at the Ohio Valley Ad Club dinner at the McLure hotel Thursday noon.

Humphrey, who last spoke here in 1959, will kick-off his Thursday tour at 8 a.m. with a breakfast at the Weirton Community Center. At this time he will be presented with the keys to the city by Mayor David T. Frew.

The Democratic presidential hopeful will add another key to his ring when Mayor Charles McDonald of Wellsburg presents him with the key to that city at about 9:30 a.m. Humphrey's visit to Wellsburg is scheduled to be held at the corner of Eighth and Charles Sts.

Back on his bus again, Humphrey heads for Bethany College and a 10 a.m. appointment as the guest speaker at a political science forum at the institution. After his speech at the college he leaves for Wheeling for a local television interview and a tour of Market St.

Humphrey keynote speech at the post office will have all the trappings of an old-time political rally including the brass band red, white and blue bunting and the street blocked off from traffic.

He is scheduled to leave for Wheeling College at 1:20 p.m. for a reception at 1:30 p.m. and a speech a half hour later. Humphrey is expected to stop at his Windsor Hotel headquarters in Wheeling after the speech for a short time.

The latest report on his plans indicate that he may stop in Glen Dale, Moundsville, and New Martinsville before boarding a plane for Morgantown.
