The West Virginia Department of Arts, Culture and History will host a series of public meetings in October and November to share the State Arts Plan for 2004-2007 with constituents. Richard H. Ressmeyer, director of arts for the Division, will be at each meeting to present the plan and answer questions.
The plan was developed over the past year by a committee consisting of artists, art educators, arts administrators, members of the West Virginia Commission on the Arts (WVCA), and Division staff.
“Last year, we collected valuable input from local citizens concerning the arts and the programs and services of the Commission and the Division,” said Ressmeyer. “This series of public meetings gives us an opportunity to report back to our constituents, sharing the plan that evolved in large part from their input.”
Goals of the new plan include expanding access to the arts in West Virginia, improving the quality of work done in the state’s arts community, supporting lifelong learning in the arts, increasing access to arts funding and making the state’s citizens aware of the value of the arts. The plan was approved by the WVCA on Sept. 9.
Artists, arts administrators and organizations, art faculty members, community arts and social service volunteers and any other interested parties are invited to attend the meetings.
