West Virginia Department of Arts, Culture and History to host free grant workshops statewide in August 2006

The West Virginia Commission on the Arts (WVCA) and the West Virginia Department of Arts, Culture and History have scheduled workshops throughout the state to give individual artists and arts professionals information they need to apply for grants from the WVCA and the Division. The workshops are free and open to artists in all disciplines, including theater, dance, literature, video, music, film, performance and visual arts.

The workshops will focus on Artist Fellowship grant applications, which have a postmark deadline of Sept. 1 and Professional Development grant applications for individual artists and arts organizations, which are due Feb. 1, 2007. In addition, the Artist Register and the Artists Commission program will be discussed. The sessions also will address the grant application process, work sample preparation and artist statements. Applications for these grants will be mailed to artists listed on the Division’s Artists’ Register. The applications also will be available online at www.wvculture.org/arts.

The first workshop will take place on Monday, Aug. 7, from noon - 2 p.m. at the Parkersburg Art Center, 725 Market Street, Parkersburg. Additional meetings will be held on Tuesday, Aug. 8, from noon - 2 p.m. at the Wheeling Artisan Center, corner of Main and 14th streets, Wheeling; Wednesday, Aug. 9, from noon - 2 p.m. at the Morgantown Arts Association Gallery in the Mountaineer Mall, 5000 Greenbag Road, Morgantown; and Thursday, Aug. 10, from 6:30 - 8:30 p.m. at The Art Centre, 208 South Queen Street, Martinsburg. The final meeting will be held on Tuesday, Aug. 22, from noon - 2 p.m. at the Cultural Center in the State Capitol Complex, Charleston.
