The Museum in the Park at Chief Logan State Park will present the artistry of Linda Zimmer of Blue Rock Marionette Theatre this weekend in a series of performances and workshops for adults and children.
On Saturday, Zimmer will present her hour-long historical puppet show “Lizzie’s Tune” at 10 a.m. and again at 4 p.m. Set during the West Virginia mine wars of 1912, the story dramatizes a fictional meeting between 10-year-old Lizzie and legendary labor leader Mother Jones. The show brings history to life with simple puppets and live dulcimer music. The performances are free and open to the public.
Zimmer also will lead a puppetry workshop for adults on Saturday from noon to 3 p.m. and a workshop for children on Sunday from noon to 1:30 p.m. Both workshops are free but space is limited. Registration is required.

Zimmer, who lives in Randolph County, began her puppetry career with The Lovelace Marionettes in Pittsburgh and went on to create puppets for six seasons of the public television series “Mister Rogers’ Neighborhood.” Zimmer has conducted numerous workshops for children and adults, including at the Milwaukee Center for the Performing Arts and the Drama Therapy Association of Washington, D.C. She has conducted a program focusing on the therapeutic uses of puppetry for the West Virginia University School of Behavioral Medicine. She serves as an instructor for the Randolph County Artsbank project and has written and produced a video for children coping with loss and grief.
The Museum in the Park is a regional cultural center showcasing the best in West Virginia history and the arts. It features changing exhibits and displays of artwork and historical items from the collections of the West Virginia State Museum and State Archives. One area of the museum is dedicated to local and regional history. It is operated and maintained by the West Virginia Department of Arts, Culture and History and is located four miles north of Logan on West Virginia Route 10 at Chief Logan State Park.
The Museum is open on Thursdays and Fridays from 5-9 p.m., Saturdays from 10 a.m.-5 p.m., and Sundays from noon-5 p.m.
