The West Virginia Department of Arts, Culture and History’s film series at the Cultural Center will kick off on Saturday with “The Phantom of the Opera” starring Lon Chaney. Two versions of the classic horror movie will be shown. At 1 p.m., the audience will be treated to the 1929 version of the film, which has been restored. Immediately following the 1929 version, the original 1925 version will be shown.
The film series will continue on Friday, Nov. 26, with “Plymouth Adventure” (1952) at 1 p.m. and “Mutiny on the Bounty” (1935) at 3 p.m. On Saturday, Nov. 27, West Virginia filmmaker Jude Miller’s “The Captives” (2004) will be shown at 1 p.m. and “Braveheart” (1995) will be shown at 2:30 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 28, will feature an encore presentation of “The Captives” (2004) at 1 p.m. and “Around the World in 80 Days” (1956) at 2:30 p.m.
All movies, which are free and open to the public, will be shown in the West Virginia State Theater of the Cultural Center. The series will continue through August 2005.
