The Appalachian Children’s Chorus and the Montclaire String Quartet of the West Virginia Symphony Orchestra will join Governor Joe Manchin III and members of the West Virginia Legislature on Monday to commemorate the fifth anniversary of the Sept. 11, 2001, terrorist attacks on the United States.
The commemoration will begin at 8:30 a.m. with the Appalachian Children’s Chorus performing for approximately 15 minutes on the north side of the State Capitol. Following their performance, members of the group will ring the state’s Liberty Bell at 8:46 a.m.—the time the first airplane hit the World Trade Center in New York.
The Montclaire String Quartet will play on the north side of the Capitol from 11:45 a.m. to noon. At noon, Governor Manchin will make brief remarks, and then will be joined by members of the Legislature for a second bell ringing. A bagpiper will play “Amazing Grace” to conclude the ceremony.
