Applications are now being accepted for historic preservation mini grants through the State Historic Preservation Office (SHPO) of the West Virginia Department of Arts, Culture and History. Approximately $20,000 in grant money will be awarded for projects associated with Preservation Week 2002, contingent upon appropriation of funds from the West Virginia legislature or the United States Congress.
Eligible projects include the design, research and/or printing of materials to inform and educate the public about specific historic resources, such as pamphlets for individual sites and walking or driving tours. The brochures must relate to sites listed on the National Register of Historic Places. Priority will be given to publications which have not been funded by the SHPO in the past.

Preservation Week takes place each May to highlight the benefits and success stories of historic preservation activities in communities throughout the state. This year’s theme of “Walking through History” will focus on learning about historic districts and sites through walking or driving tours.
