Gen. E.P. Scammon
Sir we the undersigned citizens, residing at and near the mouth of Big Sandy Kanawha Co. West Va. Would respectfuly [sic] ask you to disband the company, commanded by Captain William King and occupying the vicinity, of if you should not think proper to disband it, then we ask you to remove it from our neighborhood. We make this request for these revenue reasons.
First, because the company is a great expence [sic] to the state of several governer [sic] without being a protector to the people. Secondly, because Capt. King draws rations as we are informed, from the goverment [sic] for eighty three (83) men, while he does no keep a fourth of that number in service and then sells & disperes [sic] of the rations for his own private benefeit [sic].
Thirdly, because he captures, and imp[?]erer, the property of citizens without giving any account therefore. and finaly [sic], we ask his disbandment or removal, because he permits his men to remain a great portion of their time at home, or at least out of the service, and then draws on the state for full pay.
