On this 8th day of Sept 1866 before me S. B.Grose a justice of the peace in and for said county and state personally came Francis Hanshaw of said county and state and who being duly sworn declares that he is the father and only heir of Henry H Hanshaw who was amember [sic] of Captain William King's company of state militia West Virginia and who after serving in said company entered the service of the United States and while in same died. That he hereby appoint and constitutes [unreadable text] of the county of Ohio and state of West Virginia his attorney to sign his name to the pay rolls of said Capt King and to receive from the of the state of West Va any and all money due his said son on account of the service above rendered in the said Capt Kings company and to do and perform all other lawful acts that I would be required to do were I present in person hereby ratifying and confirming all that my said attorney may or shall lawfully do in the [unreadable text] in writing where of I herinto set my hand and seal this 8th day of Sept AD 1866 AD 1866 made payable to the order of Ralph King

Hanshaw deceased and I further certify that [unreadable text] well acquainted with the said Henry H. Hanshaw and know the did render the service in said Captain Kings company as is by him represeneted and I have evory [sic] reason to believe (other than personal knowledge) that he died in the service of the United States and that I have no interest in this claim
