I Philip Cox Adjutant of the 165 Regiment Virginia militia do hereby certify that on the 4th day of April 1862 at Dirsk Camp, in the Said County if Gilmer, I Superintended the the Election of a Captain and two Liutenants[sic] of one of the companies of that regiment. When the votes of all the members of the company being given viva voce, a majority was found to be in favor of Jonathan H. Burkm for Captain, and a majority was found to be in favor of George Griffith for first Lt and a majority was found to be in favor of James S Arnold for Second Lt. I therefore certify that the Said Johnathan H. Burk was duly elected captain of Said company and George Griffith Second first Lt and James S Arnold Second Lt if the said company To fill the vacancy caused by the former officers of Said compa ny failing to take the Several oaths presented by law and I further certify that a majority of the persons [?] vote were present, and that election was fairly and justly conducted. Given under my hand this 4th day of April 1862
