Lincoln County West Virginia
October the 4th 1869
To the now board of Military Claims these several claims below mentioned is for services renedered to the state of West Virginia by the undersigned subscribers in the year 1864 under the command of Capt Robert Brooks we[?] give a word of explaination upon the matter we volutered in to the state service in the year 1864 and was promised the same monetary wages that U.S. soldiers was geting and clothing also, and we did hard services for the state during the period of time we served the state, we here state that we refered to the pay roll of our company and got the correct time due each man for which we never received pay we further say that some of us was payed up to a certain date a up to the 30th day April 1864 whilst others who volunteered of a later date never [?] anything we turn farther state that about the month of (Aug, 1864) we had an opertunity of volunteering in the U.S. Services and as our period of time in the state services was considerable expired we volunteered in the United States services and by so doing we have been deprived of geting our pay for our hard services rendered to the state now therefore we lay our case before the Now board of claims who has been empowered by the Legislature of West Virginia to examine and adjust such claims as in their opinion is justly chargeable to the state we ask for nothing only what is justly due us

McClure justice of said Township and county do certify that the several persons whose names is used in the foregoing list of claims personally appeared before me in my Township and said and made oath under form of law and stated that the several claims here to [unreadable up to] have never received pay for the time so claimed given under my power this 4th day of Oct 1869 Joseph R. I Ephrain Griffith justice of Duval Township in said County do certify that Joseph R. McClure personally appeared before me and made oath that the time claims by him in the foregoing list of claims is just and that he has never recd pay for the same [?] under my hand this December 13th 1869
