To his excellency A.I. Boreman, Govenor of the Commonwealth of West Virginia , I beg leafe [sic] to offer the following report. During this month my Company has not Scouted So Constantly as heretofore, The state of The Country not requiring iT. We have finished The assessment of portions of the county where The assessor could not go, I would further submit, That during The month I have made Sale of two of the captured Horses in my care, One of them being of that class that was very troublesome to Keep, And The other poor and unfit for Service, The sales amount to one hundred and Thirty Dollars, Too [sic] affect The Sales I have agreed to receive grain which I can Turn to The government for cash, I Still have two in my care of more value which perhaps can be used in The service of the company To proffit [sic] with your approvial[sic], If they are retained hauling fuel &6 for the company, They would have to consume Some of the grain purchased by The Sale of The Others, What Ever may be done , I will carefully account for it, I believe That This is all That I should present to you in my presant [sic] Official report

Dear Sir, I wish here to explain what I neglected in my last communication to you, as one of The causes of complaint on The part of my men (It relates to Bounty) I Know not what they have presented to you, The facts are as follows, Wm A, Bryan pledged himself to pay two Dollars To each man that would volunteer until[sic] fifty was Enlisted. This offer he repeated But never intimated that he would pay me any thing , or too me for The men, He did pay a few of the men __ Mr Lewis?(merchant) pledged himself in writing directed too [sic] me that if I would get a company of forty men against a fixed date he would pay to Each man two Dollars, But the men was not recruited within The Time so fixed, He then agreed to assist us in getting Stoves &6 for our Quarters Which he did To the amount of fifty Dollars, The men Then recruited all agreed to that arrangement , Mr. Benedict prommised[sic] to give me fifty Dollars for my own benefit if I could raise a company of fifty men Quarter here one year, But failing to do this Mr. Benedict did pay me fifteen Dollars These are the facts as I am prepard to veryfy[sic]. But Some of the men claim That all This is due The Company as Bounty, This sufficiently presents to you The foundation of complaint upon this subject. Having previously explained the other causes of complaint I will add no more.
