Sixteenth VA Regiment
December 12, 1862
We understand that the 16th Virginia Regiment, under the command of Col. James T. Close, of this city, has been duly mustered into the service of the United States. For several weeks past this regiment has been quartered near Fort Lyon, but are now under orders to march to Miner's Hill, near Camp Abercrombie, and there be placed on picket duty, in close proximity to the enemy's lines, and where an opportunity may be given them to show their pluck, and fighting qualities. We trust, in such a case, to hear a good report from the famous 16th.
