Remember...Albert Benton Adkins

Staff Sergeant Albert B. Adkins was a native of Bentree, Clay County, West Virginia. Named for his maternal grandfather, he was the son of Andrew L. (Andy) and Dana Mullins Adkins and the grandson of Albert and Roxie Mullins. A New Year's baby, Albert was born in 1923.
At the time of his registration, S/Sgt. Adkins stated he had a grammar school education, and U.S. World War II Army Enlistment Records.indicate his civil occupation was in the category of semiskilled chauffeurs and drivers (bus, taxi, truck, and tractor).
Albert enlisted in the Army at Clarksburg, West Virginia, on August 25, 1943, and had attained the rank of staff sergeant when he was killed in action in Italy on April 22, 1945, ironically near the end of all hostilities in Europe. S/Sgt. Adkins' remains were returned to the States in 1949, and he was buried at Bentree on March 6.
