Remember...Orville Bias Tully

Ensign Tully was commissioned in November 1943 at Corpus Christi, Texas, where he also received his Navy Wings. On August 16, 1944, he was serving in the area of Einwetok Atoll in the Marshall Islands when he died from injuries received in a bomber crash. His body was returned to the United States in 1947 and on October 29th was interred in Sunset Memorial Cemetery in South Charleston.
Grant Perry Tully was born November 22, 1922, in Charleston, West Virginia, the son of William Albert and Dora McCann Tully. He attended West Virginia University in 1941 and took the Morris Harvey flight course, entering the service as a flight cadet in 1942. Grant earned his pilot wings in Pensacola, Florida, and was commissioned a pilot in the Marine Corps Reserve. He was sent to California for operational training.
Second Lieutenant Grant Tully was killed on October 15, 1943, when his plane crashed into the Salton Sea in the El Centro area of California. His body was recovered and returned to Charleston. Interment was in Sunset Memorial Cemetery in South Charleston.
Orville B. and Grant P. Tully were first cousins, their fathers being brothers.
