| Forrest Grey Williams was born on February 18, 1892, in Lewisburg, West Virginia, the youngest son of Judge Luther Judson and Nannie Williams. Judge Williams served on the West Virginia Court of Appeals. |  Judge L. Judson Williams |
Forrest received his early education at Front Royal, Virginia, where he attended Randolph-Macon Academy. After completing his studies he entered West Virginia University in 1911 and studied law for two years. Forrest then entered the wholesale firm of Noyes, Thomas and Company in Charleston.
Forrest joined the Marines on August 1, 1917, and was sent to Parris Island for training. He received further training at Quantico.

In late January 1918, Forrest, who was attached to the 80th Company, 2nd Battalion, 6th Regiment, was sent overseas, arriving in France on February 5. The unit was in Verdun for several weeks and then transferred to Chateau Thierry and fought in the Battle of Belleau Wood. |
While leading an attack on the town of Vierzy on July 19, Corporal Forrest Williams was wounded. He died in a field hospital two days later and was buried at the Oise-Aisne American Cemetery.
