The West Virginia Division of Culture and History will offer a “sneak peek” of the newly renovated West Virginia State Museum to the public on Saturday, June 20, from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m., at the Culture Center, State Capitol Complex in Charleston. The museum will officially open to the public on Sunday, June 21, from noon to 5 p.m.
Visitors can tour the self-guided show path, a 660-foot route that leads through the museum on a chronological journey beginning in prehistoric coal forests and ending in present day West Virginia. The show path trip takes 45 to 60 minutes, so guests should start their journey no later than 1 p.m.
The museum will be open year-round from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., Tuesday through Saturday, and from noon to 5 p.m., on Sunday. Admission is free. Although usually closed on Mondays, the museum will be open on June 22 during its first week of operation.
