The West Virginia Division of Culture and History will offer cake decorating classes at the Culture Center, State Capitol Complex in Charleston in 2010. Beginners as well as experienced cake decorators are encouraged to attend. Robin Taylor, a decorator with more than eight years experience and training, will lead the classes.
The classes will begin with four sessions at the basic instructional level followed by an additional 11 specialty cake classes for experienced decorators and those who took the basic classes. The specialty cake sessions will have participants creating seasonal cakes specific for the month, such as Valentine’s Cake in February. Beginners are encouraged to sign up for the basic sessions as well as six specialty classes at a cost of $100. A complete list of dates is attached.
The basic sessions will take place on four consecutive Tuesdays beginning Jan. 12, 2010, from 5:30 - 8:30 p.m., and continue through Feb. 2, inclusive. The specialty cake classes begin Feb. 9, also from 5:30 - 8:30 p.m., and continue once a month through Dec. 6. Everyone is requested to take six specialty classes.
Space is limited for the cake decorating classes and registration is required for the basic sessions. Those registering for the specialty classes must take a minimum of six lessons at a cost of $60. Participants who wish to take fewer classes and do not want to register will pay $15 per session. A list of necessary supplies will be provided to all registrants.
Taylor works for the Department of Education and the Arts and has taught Adult Basic Education Cake Decorating Classes for Kanawha County Schools and Fayette Vocational and Technical School.
