Logan, WV – Museum in the Park at Chief Logan State Park will serve as host to the West Virginia Division of Culture and History’s (WVDCH) arts staff as they bring the statewide listening tour to 376 Little Buffalo Creek Road on Thursday, Sept. 16, 2010, at 5:30 p.m. Community members are invited to be part of the conversation that will help inform how state and federal arts dollars will be spent to support arts programs in Logan and the surrounding area. Arts administrators, arts educators, artists and arts consumers and audience members are invited to participate in this informal conversation. The meeting is free and open to the public and will last 90 minutes.
Arts staff will hold a series of meetings across the state to listen to the needs and comments of community members. The information gathered will be used to develop new programs and policies for grants available to communities, schools and artists through state and federal funding.
The arts staff will provide discussion starter questions to begin the conversation at each listening tour stop. The Museum in the Park is a regional cultural center showcasing the best in West Virginia history and the arts. It features changing exhibits and displays of artwork and historical items from the collections of the West Virginia State Museum and the State Archives. One area of the museum is dedicated to local and regional history. It is operated and maintained by the West Virginia Division of Culture and History and is located four miles north of Logan on West Virginia Route 10 at Chief Logan State Park. The museum is open Wednesday through Saturday from 10 a.m. - 6 p.m., and Sunday from 1 - 6 p.m.
The West Virginia Division of Culture and History, an agency of the West Virginia Department of Education and the Arts, brings together the state’s past, present and future through programs and services in the areas of archives and history, the arts, historic preservation and museums. Its administrative offices are located at the Culture Center in the State Capitol Complex in Charleston, which also houses the state archives and state museum. The Culture Center is West Virginia’s official showcase for the arts. The agency also operates a network of museums and historic sites across the state.
