CHARLESTON, W.VA. – The West Virginia Division of Culture and History will host two five-day camps in June. The Arts Sampler camp, for children ages 8 to 16, will be June 9 – 13; the Historic Preservation camp, for children ages 10 to 12, will be June 23 – 27. Both camps are free and open to the public with limited space available and preregistration required.
The 2014 Arts Sampler Workshop will be held at the Culture Center from 9 a.m. to noon June 9 – 13. Aspiring young performers will enjoy classes in theater, music and dance taught by local community arts instructors and division staff. Upon completion of the workshop, participants will perform in a showcase in the Norman L. Fagan West Virginia State Theatre. Space is limited to 45 campers; preregistration is required.
The 2014 Historic Preservation Day Camp will also be from 9 a.m. to noon June 23 – 27. Campers will learn about historic preservation by participating in a capitol grounds search, a mock archaeological dig and a visit to the Craik-Patton House. They will learn how to identify architectural building features. This camp is limited to 20 campers and also requires preregistration.
