BECKLEY, W.Va. – The fourth annual West Virginia State Science, Engineering and Art Fair will be held on Friday, Nov. 4, 2016 in the Van Meter Gym at West Virginia University Institute of Technology in Beckley, Raleigh County. This daylong competition provides students with an opportunity to display their knowledge and passion for the sciences as well as show their creative sides. Integrating the arts with sciences and engineering encourages innovativeness, creativity and contextual thinking and gives students the ability to succeed not only in the classroom but outside as well.
The West Virginia State Science, Engineering and Art Fair combines ideas common in other fairs with concepts that are unique to creative fairs. It is designed to reinforce classroom efforts to stimulate enthusiasm for science and career-related skills through academic competition and events. Sixth grade to twelfth grade students from West Virginia are invited to attend this event.
The fair is broken down into five divisions: Investigatory Project Division, Display Project Division, Art Division, Symposium Division and Submitted Papers Division. Each division will be judged based on a specific set of criteria. Students are allowed to compete in as many divisions as they wish. Other activities will be included to provide a full day of competition for students and interactions between students, teachers, parents and scientists in an academic setting.
The fair will begin with check-in and set-up of all exhibits at 8:30 a.m., and the day will conclude with the awards ceremony starting at approximately 1:15 p.m.
The West Virginia State Science, Engineering and Art Fair is hosted and sponsored by West Virginia University Institute of Technology in partnership with the West Virginia Division of Culture and History and the West Virginia Higher Education Policy Commission. Registration is free and open to public, private and home school students.
