In order to expedite the awards process, the West Virginia Commission on the Arts of the West Virginia Division of Culture and History has announced that the ceremony scheduled for this Saturday, April 14, for the 2007 West Virginia Artist Fellowship Grant Awards will not take place. The Commission will individually recognize each fellowship winner.
The eight fellowship recipients are Aleta Cortes of Pipestem, Mercer County; Jessica Fox of Huntington, Cabell County; Benita Keller of Shepherdstown, Jefferson County; Missy Armentrout, Elkins, Randolph County; Betty McMullen of Charleston, Kanawha County; Patsy Pittman of Vienna, Wood County; Sara Pritchard of Morgantown, Monongalia County; and Mark Zanter of Huntington, Cabell County.
Each of the recipients will receive $3,500 for artistic excellence in the categories of visual arts/crafts/photography, literary arts/fiction/playwriting, and performing arts/choreography/music composition.
The fellowships are intended to support working artists for the purpose of artistic development. Use of the funds is up to the recipients’ discretion including, but not limited to, creating new work, purchasing supplies and materials, travel, research, and defraying expenses incurred in the presentation of work or documentation.
