Jeff Pierson named as new director of arts for Division of Culture and History
Commissioner Randall Reid-Smith of the West Virginia Division of Culture and History today announced he has named Jeff Pierson of Charleston as director of the agency’s Arts Section, effective immediately. Pierson currently serves the Division as Individual Arts Coordinator of the Arts Section. He will be responsible for administering the Division’s arts programs which include arts administration services and the development and implementation of State and Federal grants for West Virginia’s arts organizations, individual artists and schools and communities. Pierson will continue to edit and design ArtWorks, the art section’s news publication.
Before coming to the Division, the new director worked as the Exhibition and Education Coordinator at the Museum in the Community from 2001-2004. Pierson is also a free-lance illustrator.

In my new position, I am looking forward to extending the reputation of West Virginia as a state that is known far and wide for its rich and varied arts community.”
Pierson has a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in Illustration from Columbus College of Art and Design.
