Governor Joe Manchin III will pound in the ceremonial first nail of the new West Virginia State Museum, signaling the official beginning of the construction phase of the project, on Tuesday, May 27, at 4 p.m. on the lower level of the Cultural Center, State Capitol Complex, Charleston. First Lady Gayle Manchin and Commissioner Randall Reid-Smith of the West Virginia Division of Culture and History will join the governor at the event.
Other officials scheduled to attend include Jacqueline A. Proctor, deputy commissioner of the Division, and Adam Hodges, director of museums for the Division. Reid-Smith said, “This occasion marks the realization of many years of tremendous support from the governor and the legislature to reestablish a world-class state museum. The citizens of the Mountain State will soon have a multi-disciplined educational facility of which they can be incredibly proud.”
