Jenkins Plantation Museum 166th anniversary of the homestead |
|
The
Jenkins Plantation Museum celebrated its
166th year at the Homestead Gathering, an evening of games and
traditional music on Saturday, September 22, 2001. The event was
free and open to the public.
Civil War re-enactors from the 8th Virginia Cavalry, 36th Virginia Infantry, 91st Ohio Infantry, 82nd Ohio Volunteer Infantry and the Kentucky Light Artillery were on hand, in full uniform, to explain the formation of their units and daily activities that may have occurred. Hayrides and dancing were a big part of the evening. |

The
evening activities included period music from The Allendale
Melodians, a traditional string band. The band also answered
questions about the music and lives of civilians during the
1860s. Visitors appeared both in period dress and everyday clothes to enjoy the early fall weather and the sunset over the Plantation. |
