Accessibility workshop

Would your arts group like to know more about how to make your programs useable by everyone, people with and without disabilities and people of all ages? Is your organization really in compliance with the Americans with Disabilities Act? Want to learn why and how accessibility is vital to your marketing plans?

On May 17, the Ohio River Border Initiative (ORBI), the West Virginia Commission on the Arts and the Ohio Arts Council will sponsor a one-day workshop, “Accessibility and the Arts: ADA & Beyond,” at the Joan C. Edwards Performing Arts Center on the campus of Marshall University, Huntington, WV.

Workshop topics will include:

• The basic requirements of ADA Compliance and how it affects your organization’s programs and facilities;
• Presentations by artists concerning the nuts and bolts of making programs accessible on a daily basis;
• A practical introduction to universal design;
• Developing an ADA plan for your organization;
• Requirements specific to grant funding for West Virginia and Ohio by the 504/ADA coordinators; and
• An opportunity for you to get answers to specific challenges your organization faces.
