John F. Kennedy visited Morgantown on June 11, 1958, and, during the campaign, came with his wife Jacqueline on April 18, at which time he also went to Scotts Run. Hubert Humphrey made a campaign stop in Morgantown on May 5. Muriel Humphrey was in town on April 19 and April 20, when she also stopped at Sabraton. Robert Kennedy was in Morgantown on April 27, as were Rep. Charles Porter, for Humphrey; Rep. Jim Wright, for Lyndon Johnson; and Stuart Symington Jr., representing his father, for a WVU Democratic Mock Convention. During the general election campaign, Eleanor Roosevelt came to Morgantown on September 24. |
