Jazz saxophonist Marion Meadows returned to his
native West Virginia in September for Beckley’s free Labor
Day concert, sponsored by the Beckley Area Foundation with grants
from the National Endowment for the Arts and the West Virginia
Commission on the Arts. In addition, he devoted two days to
visiting Raleigh County schools promoting music and education
generally.
“I feel the umbilical cord between kids
and good art and music has been severed. It’s not that they
don’t want it, it’s just that they don’t seem to
be getting it,” he noted.
Meadows studied at the Berklee College of Music in
Boston and at SUNY Purchase School for the Arts, and has recorded
eight albums and a compilation.
